New Orleans Pelicans: 100-1
Even the New Orleans Pelicans ended 14 games beneath .500 last year, but the 2014-15 effort should see them vault over the break-even mark.
That is a substantial improvement, though it’s as much a statement on the franchise’s rotten luck a year past as anything else. Jrue Holiday and ryan Anderson missed huge portions of the year with back and knee injuries. Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon lost time as well.
Better fortune on the injury front, alongside the huge inclusion of Omer Asik in the center, should propel the Pelicans forward as they develop into a group worthy of Davis’ existence. This year marks a critical developmental milestone for Your Brow and the organization.
Though not a championship-caliber team, the Pelicans must now move themselves in the postseason dialog:
Sean Highkin of ProBasketballTalk writes:
Whether they’ve enough to really get there is a different discussion, and it is difficult to point to a single team out of last year’s playoff crop that is very likely to fall out. But if Davis is as good as he’s going to be and everyone else stays relatively healthy, they’ve got a chance.
The Pelicans are building a skyscraper, and it will probably be sensible to get in on the ground floor.
